Work’s title: Voice of no one
Duration: 4:32 min
Media: Video, Audio

Voice of no one is a mixed video works, it combined both video and audio.

The first chapter called ‘The sound of nothing’, this part is present by purely audio. The sound was made by a temple bowl, which is a metal bowl in the largest temple of Mount Qingcheng. Mount Qingcheng is a mountain in Sichuan, China. It is considered one of the birthplaces of Taoism and one of the most important Taoist centers in China. As the “practical, political side” of Taoist philosophy, Arthur Waley translated them as “abstention from aggressive war and capital punishment”, “absolute simplicity of living”, and “refusal to assert active authority”.

The sound of the temple bowl is a call from the spiritual world. In the deep mountains far from the world, even if there are still noisy sounds around, the sound of the temple bowl is powerful.

The second chapter called ‘The city of Mountain’. In this part, there is a video showing the landscape around the Yangtze river in Chongqing, in which the video was taken in the Yangtze river cableway. Yangtze river cableway can be seen as a very meaningful scene. The cableway is mainly used by the local population for inexpensive travel to Jiefangbai CBD, but tourists also enjoy the beautiful scenery that can be taken in while crossing the Yangtze River. Chongqing, located in southwestern China, has a peculiar landscape. The Yangtze river cableway is one of the best ways that people can review the peculiar landscape of Chongqing city.

To some extent, the location of the city determines the way people live in this region. As a closed space, the Yangtze River Cableway spans the center of the city. During this public transportation, passengers are in an enclosed space but have a better opportunity to observe the city.

These two combined segments showcase the silhouettes of cities and mountains in southwestern China. As an important city in the southwest, Chengdu and Chongqing are far from the economic center and political center, showing their unique urban style and appearance.
